I’m Jan Noordman. With Eigen Koers I bring together my background in education and philosophy in personal guidance for parents and young people.

Understanding starts
with a good question.

As a teacher I have worked with young people. Their questions, beliefs and interests deserve a serious conversation. Parents bring something just as important: involvement, experience and the wish to protect their child.

My approach starts with those two perspectives. What exactly does someone mean? What value lies behind a choice? And what happens when that choice has consequences for school, money or the relationship at home?

Philosophy helps to examine assumptions and clarify arguments. My background in education helps make that conversation understandable and practical.

At Eigen Koers I use that combination to get parent and child talking again.

How do young people learn
to examine claims?

For my teacher training at the UvA I wrote Voorbij de demarcatie: Wetenschap, pseudowetenschap en complot-narratieven in het VWO (Beyond demarcation: science, pseudoscience and conspiracy narratives in pre-university education). In it I developed a series of lessons on critical citizenship and evaluating knowledge claims.

Students examine evidence, sources and reasoning errors and learn to support their judgement. I bring that attention to asking questions and careful reasoning into the conversations at Eigen Koers.

Master’s degree in Teaching Social Sciences and Humanities in Secondary Education. Completed on 30 June 2026.

Science, pseudoscience and conspiracy narratives

For my teacher training at the UvA I developed a series of lessons on critical citizenship for pre-university students. Students learn to examine claims using evidence, sources and reasoning errors.
