CRYPTO & GAMBLING PROBLEMS
When money dominates conversations at home.
Worried about crypto, Polymarket or online gambling? We explore what attracts your child, which behaviour is a concern and what boundaries are needed.
Familiar examples: together we explore what is going on in your family.
YOUR CHILD’S PERSPECTIVE
“This is what it
means to me.”
- I want to understand how money and the monetary system work.
- I want to be successful and build my own future.
- New technology and research interest me.
- I see myself as someone who invests and thinks ahead.
- I’m looking for excitement, opportunities or recognition for my choices.
THE PARENT’S PERSPECTIVE
“This is what
worries me.”
- I see prices and bets taking up more and more time.
- I’m worried about losses, debts or secrecy.
- I see risks my child seems to underestimate.
- I doubt whether my child understands when something is gambling.
- I want school, rest and financial boundaries to hold.
MY ROLE AS CONVERSATION GUIDE
Understanding ambition. Making risks discussable.
An interest in economics or technology doesn’t yet say how someone handles money. We make a concrete distinction between learning, investing, speculating and gambling. What is the motivation, what is actually happening and what are the consequences? A positive interest doesn’t make harmful behaviour any less serious.
From understanding to agreements.
Agreements can cover betting money, openness about spending, times without price apps and ways to learn about economics without putting money at stake.
I speak with you first, then with your child. In the third conversation we bring both stories together. We put into words what each of you needs and which agreements fit.
