JAN NOORDMAN
TEACHER & PHILOSOPHER
FOR CRYPTO AND GAMBLING PROBLEMS, GAMING ADDICTION AND EXTREMISM
Your own course.
Moving on together.

I help you
talk again.
I’m Jan Noordman, teacher and philosopher. When crypto, gaming or extreme ideas come between you and your child, I help get both stories on the table.
I translate your concerns into your child’s world, and help you understand what drives your child.
Because of the generation gap, parents and children don’t always understand each other. With my experience in education and my knowledge of gaming, crypto and extremism, I help bridge that distance and restore contact.
What are you worried about? ↘More about me and my backgroundWHY JAN?
I know
your child’s world.
Many care professionals work in a world that has little to do with your child’s world. What does a care worker really know about gaming? Have they ever played World of Warcraft? Ever bought Ethereum? Ever visited 4chan? Usually not.
I work in the space between both worlds.
I used to be a proud gamer myself. I know the benefits and the pitfalls.
I’m active in the crypto and bitcoin world myself.
I’m involved in politics in a responsible and boundary-pushing way.
Many care workers start from behaviour change and offer a programme aimed at getting your child to stop. I start with understanding: what the game, the coin or the idea gives your child. From there, we make agreements together.

JAN IN THE MEDIA · HET PAROOL
How do you deal with extreme ideas?
What do you do when students build Kanye West and swastikas into a religion they invented? In Het Parool I wrote about that lesson and the conversation that followed.
DOES THIS SOUND FAMILIAR?
Your child is caught up in something.
You can’t get through any more.
Three topics that can make conversations at home grind to a halt.
Crypto &
gambling problems
Constantly checking prices, betting money on Polymarket or trying to win back losses. Where does interest end and the problem begin?

You’re shocked by remarks about women, antisemitism or the influence of figures like Andrew Tate. How do you stay in touch and set boundaries?

taking over
School, sleep and agreements get pushed aside. Your child sees challenge and friends; you see other things getting less and less room.

Behind the clash
are two stories.
You want to protect your child. Your child wants to be taken seriously. I help you both put into words what the other isn’t hearing yet — and turn that into concrete agreements.
How we work together ↗A PERSONAL PROGRAMME
Separately first.

We start with a free, no-obligation introductory meeting. After that I look into your situation and we schedule the conversations.

- 02
Your child’s story
Interests, beliefs, needs and the consequences of behaviour.
- 03
Together at the table
Hearing each other, discussing boundaries and making workable agreements.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Good to know.
Answers to questions parents often ask about Eigen Koers. Is your question not listed? During the free introductory meeting we discuss what is going on in your situation.
01How soon can the first conversation take place?
Very soon. Where GPs, psychologists and youth care often have long waiting lists, you can come to me straight away.
My personal number is on the contact page. I’ll answer right away or call you back as soon as possible. An email explaining what’s going on is fine too; I’ll reply to that as soon as possible as well.
Go to the contact page ↗02Which children and problems is Eigen Koers suitable for?
Eigen Koers is for parents and young people aged 10 to 20 with mild to moderate problems around gaming, crypto and gambling, or extreme ideas. For example, when these topics cause tension and contact at home has broken down.
My approach needs room for a real conversation. The guidance is not suitable for situations centred on violent or criminal behaviour. In those situations, contact your GP or the local youth team to find suitable, possibly specialist support. In case of immediate danger, call 112.
During the no-obligation introductory meeting we explore whether my approach fits your situation.
03Why is Jan qualified for this guidance?
I’m a fully qualified philosophy teacher and have worked with young people as a teacher. I studied philosophy at the University of Amsterdam, earned a research master’s in philosophy at the University of Buckingham and completed my master’s in teaching at the UvA in 2026. In my thesis I developed lessons on examining claims, pseudoscience and conspiracy narratives.
I have also been politically active as a committee member in the municipality of Amsterdam.
I use that combination of education, philosophy and public experience to get parent and child talking again. I’m not a psychologist and I don’t make diagnoses.
More about my background and diplomas ↗04Will you take over my child’s care entirely?
No. This is a defined mediation programme in which I help you reconnect and find a shared language. I help you better understand your child’s world and motivation, and I help your child better understand your concerns.
We work towards conversations and agreements that let you move forward together. I don’t take over parenting, day-to-day care or the full organisation of support.
05My child games a lot. Is your guidance suitable?
The number of hours doesn’t tell the whole story. We look at how gaming affects school, sleep, agreements and contact at home. At the same time we explore what gaming gives your child: for example friendship, challenge, skills and pride.
The aim is to make both perspectives open for discussion and find workable agreements together. I don’t diagnose and I don’t offer addiction treatment.
06Can you help if my child is losing money on crypto or online gambling?
I can help you talk about what attracts your child to it, what consequences you see and what boundaries are needed. For example, we discuss openness about money, risks and responsibility.
The guidance focuses on understanding and communication. I don’t give investment advice and I don’t resolve debts.
07How do you handle extreme or discriminatory statements?
I explore what lies behind the statements and what certain ideas or online role models mean to your child. Understanding why something appeals doesn’t mean we approve of every statement.
We discuss the consequences of words and behaviour, set boundaries and look for a way for you to keep talking.
08What if my child doesn’t want to take part?
You can also come to me without your child. We then start with your concerns, what you see happening at home and how you can open the conversation.
A conversation with your child requires their willingness. Together we look at how you can invite your child without putting on pressure.
09How does the programme work?
We start with a free, no-obligation introductory meeting. In it we explore the problem and see whether my approach is a good fit. After that I look into your situation and prepare the first paid conversation.
The programme then consists of three parts: a conversation with the parent, a conversation with the child and a joint conversation.
Extra conversations are possible if they help. My goal is for you and your child to carry on together independently, not for you to depend on more and more coaching sessions.
10What does the guidance cost, and can I stop partway?
The introductory meeting is free and without obligation. The full programme of three conversations costs €375.
You can stop at any time. If you’re not satisfied, you get the full amount paid back.
11Where do the conversations take place, and can they be online?
Conversations preferably take place in person. For the first conversation we meet at Hotel Zoku Amsterdam, Weesperstraat 105, 1018 VN Amsterdam, on the sixth floor.
If meeting in person really isn’t possible, an online conversation is an option. We arrange that in advance.
12Can the municipality or school pay for the guidance?
In principle you pay for the guidance yourself. Depending on your situation, you can find out whether the municipality or school can contribute.
Reimbursement for Eigen Koers is not guaranteed. Before starting, get written confirmation that the funding applies to Eigen Koers, the agreed guidance, the period and the amount. Without confirmation, assume you will pay the full amount yourself.
